Materials

What the jewellery is made of, without euphemisms. Where a product description says something different, the product description applies.

Gold-plated brass

Brass is an alloy of copper and zinc. Gold-plated means a thin layer of gold has been applied to the surface electrochemically — often about a micrometre thick. So it is not solid gold, and it is also not the same as gold filled, where the layer is much thicker and mechanically bonded.

The practical difference: plating wears off eventually, and how fast depends on how the piece is treated. See the care guide.

925 sterling silver

925 means 92.5% pure silver. The rest is usually copper, which is there because pure silver is too soft to wear. The number is an international standard, not a brand name.

With us it is mainly the ear posts that are 925 sterling silver — the part that sits in your ear. Where the product description says so, it applies.

Real freshwater pearls

Cultured in fresh water, not plastic and not glass. Every pearl has its own shape, its own lustre and small irregularities — no two are alike. That is how you tell a real pearl from an imitation: the imitation is perfect.

Shell and mother of pearl

Mother of pearl is the inside of a shell, the same material as a pearl but in sheet form. It shifts colour depending on the angle of the light.

Crystal and zirconia

Zirconia (cubic zirconium dioxide) is a synthetic stone — not a diamond, and not an imitation trying to be one. It is hard, does not scratch easily and does not lose its shine.

Nickel

The jewellery is nickel-free. Ear posts are also 925 sterling silver, a common choice for sensitive ears. If a piece still irritates your skin, get in touch at [email protected] — you get your money back.

Ring sizes

Most of our rings are adjustable, so you do not need to know your ring size. Where a product description says nothing about size, the ring is adjustable.
